The Assignment

I remember seeing red the day I picked Journee up from school when she said she was called a black monkey. The U-turn was made, and the issue was pressed! With no sound solution, I took matters into my own hands and reacquainted with past patterns. But oh how quickly the Holy Spirit intercepted and redirected me to scripture. Showing her exactly who God says she is, her resilience was restored with Godfidence to proudly say, "I am Black & I am Blessed."

Growing up game was given, “Get over a man by getting under another.” So, I took that play and ran right into a whirl of  ifast tail'd conduct. This mirrored mindset dwindled my identity before it developed. To the young lady in me, on behalf of my bloodline, I recant that message. Know you are a divine design given unparallel purpose. May you grow to know the only man capable of showering His love over you and will fill every void within you. That man is King Jesus!

Were you ever told, “Make sure my house is clean before I get back!?” If you had that “special” type of authority growing up, fear was in your heart and haste was in your step! At times I ask myself, “If the Lord came back today, will He find my house in order? 

Conqueror, stay awake to the fact Lord Jesus is indeed coming back! Do your best to evade temptation to sweep scripture under the rug, and instead wholeheartedly repent & submit ensure your house is in order too!

After my encounter, certain things changed. Thoughts were different and familiar fun faded. One day while driving “Oochie Wally” by Nas played on the radio. I turned it up and went word for word. By time I yelled, “He really really really”, something swarmed me and redirected my steps. I asked aloud, “Not that either?” A stern, yet gentle voice replied, “Not that either”. There I was taught the spirit of conviction and unknowingly had been refined into new wine.

 With all the wicked running wild in this wretched world, it is imperative I take time to encourage you. From personal issues to politics, you’ve been tried & tested! This candle was curated with intense intent to give a grounding atmosphere. To ignite the fact that no matter what weapon forms against, lean on the God's sovereignty. May He prick your heart to seek the obedience and tenacity to endure, so that you may dwell eternally with Him. In Jesus name, Amen.

Out of four miscarriages, losing Jonah hit the hardest. Birthing a child with no cry robbed me mentally and maternally; causing emotional wounds bandaged with rage and recklessness. I remember calling myself mad at God, unaware of the power and purpose of His timing. This scent is dedicated to my unborn son. Life without you bears heavy heartache, but just know your heartbeat lives forever.

First it started as something sneaky. Then it became something soothing. Drinking for me was as automatic as breathing. Chasing comfort first at the bottom of a fifth, I had no intent or desire to stop. At the end of a usual day of drinking, my actions posed a threat to my marriage and motherhood. After a late-night cup of coffee, I was led into the bathroom. Barely standing I took a long stare at myself in the mirror and boldly declared, "this is the Last Call."

At age 14 I wanted to help homeless people. I knew part of the plan included going to college. Part of that goal I didn't plan was to live in my car for about a year and 1/2 after college. 

Car Covered was created for a critical cause. 10% of proceeds are donated to (R.A.Y.A) Rise Above Your Adversity Inc. , a 501 (c)(3)  non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and essentials to homeless individuals in under-resourced communities.

 I remember the day it felt like my soul sank when the doctor announced, “You’re having a girl!” Not because I couldn’t comb hair; but more so afraid of the affection I wasn’t given to give.

Dear Daughter, this candle was created to comfort the impact endured by the void of a mother's love. To empower you to forgive the unfortunate and recognize this war goes beyond bloodline beef. To bind every demonic dart aimed to destroy the bond between you and your daughter(s). 

Notes: Freesia+Plum+Amber 

This candle represents the personal and prolific encounter I had with God, after suffering a series of medical complications in 2021 ranging from leg numbness, difficulty breathing, eating, jaw pain, and slurred speech lasting roughly 2 ½ years.

For the first time I knowingly heard God's voice. Through fasting and praying, visions of past incidents that shaped my present state of mind were uncovered, and the difference between religion and relationship was revealed.

I can hardly describe the look on my daughter’s face when I declared we were no longer celebrating Christmas. Although empathy was given, my obedience had to override her feelings. This directive was clear and effective immediately! With haste submission and reference to scripture (Jeremiah 10:1-5) my mind was renewed, and my spiritual sight was sharpened in more areas than one. Having no knowledge of the plans, I’d come too far not to trust the Planner!

 One of my funniest, yet fearful childhood memories are playing in the front yard with cousins and friends; From double dutch to pogs and jacks, freeze tag to red light green light. Sharing Lucas and hot Cheetos; drinking Kool-Aid or straight from the water hose. Everything was good like a watermelon warhead, until somebody stepped in Granny’s flower bed! It was the instant and intense roar of “Who In My Mint?!” that made the games stop and everyone’s heart drop!

“You just like yo no good daddy!” “Sounds like this 17-year-old is an animal.” Hearing weighted words spoken over me formed feelings of confusion as a child, and unworthiness as a young adult.  It wasn't till I found out how precious and protected I am in the sight of the most High, was when every lie and label was returned to sender! So, the next time something is spoken over you outside what was written, rebuke that lie and renounce “I am the apple of God’s eye.”

Despite the 99 store runs and never-ending commands to “bring me this” or go stir that” it was well worth it once the pies were done in Granny’s house. This candle was created to commemorate my Granny’s scrumptious and unparalleled sweet potato pie. Now I may not remember her recipe precisely, but I do recall as well as replicate the love she exuded when cooking for her family and many others.
